2020 represents a milestone in the Durham Literacy Center’s history: our 35th anniversary!
Founded in 1985 as the Durham County Literacy Council, the DLC was created by a group of dedicated volunteers to provide basic adult literacy services to Durham County residents, many of whom had lost their jobs when the city’s tobacco and textile factories closed. Since then, the DLC has helped over 18,000 adults in the Durham area improve their reading, writing, and English language skills and/or obtain a high school diploma.
Help us celebrate our 35th anniversary by giving the gift of literacy this holiday season!
