Honoring the Life of Dale Stouch

While we celebrate the successes and resilience of our students, we also mourn the unexpected loss of our friend and board member, Dale Stouch. Dale gave the Durham Literacy Center 27 years loyal of service. He started as a volunteer tutor in 1987 - the agency was founded in 1985, so he must have been one of our earliest volunteers! Dale was a tutor with our Adult Literacy Program from 1987-2000 and he joined our board of directors in 2001. He was board secretary 2001-2003 and was the board president from 2003-2005. In addition, Dale served on the “Teaching and Learning Committee” (aka Program Committee) and the Anniversary and History Committee.

Dale was committed to providing a place where Durham folks could come together to learn and grow. He was a gentle, kind and generous person who will be sorely missed. We send our condolences to his family.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 21st at 2:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 1200 W. Cornwallis Rd.
