Dear friend of literacy,
My first months as Executive Director of this organization have been full of learning, connection and inspiration! I’m inspired by the determination of our students; the commitment and care of our volunteers; the professionalism and expertise of our staff and contractors; our hardworking board of directors; and the generosity of our many supporters. There’s a lot to learn and I’m grateful for the many capable people who make this organization strong as I find my way.
My priorities include getting to know our stakeholders and partners; raising money through fundraising and grants; launching our Digital Literacy Program in partnership with Kramden Institute and others; contingency planning in response to changing priorities of the federal government, specifically loss of AmeriCorps and future funding for adult literacy; improving facilities; and so much more.
The Durham Literacy Center will soon begin planning for our 40th anniversary this year! It is my honor to take the reins and grow this impactful organization in its next decade.
Please don't hesitate to reach to me at Crystal@durhamliteracy.org. It truly takes a village to meet the needs of our students and the Durham community - many thanks to each of you who make it happen in your own way.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
As we near the end of the 2024-2025 program year, staff are busy making sure students’ get post testing, goals are documented and learning plans for next program year are firmed up. Though we’re not quite finished with our end-of-year post testing, we are thrilled to share that 4 of our Youth Achievement students have received their High School Equivalency diplomas! Many other students have increased their reading or math levels and several are nearing their diplomas as indicated by passing one or more of the HSE subject matter tests.
