Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards $10K to DLC

The Durham Literacy Center Receives $10,000 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support English Language and Job-Readiness for Immigrant Adults

Durham, NC – June 11, 2018 – This week, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded the Durham Literacy Center a $10,000 grant to support its English for Speakers of Other Languages Program. This local grant award is part of more than $8.3 million in grants awarded to more than 1,000 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 44 states that Dollar General serves.

“We are delighted to receive the generous support for our ESOL Program from the Dollar General Foundation. These funds will enable us to provide tuition-free, high quality English instruction to adults at five sites across the county.” – Joan Zec Nelson, ESOL Program Coordinator

Over 200 immigrants and refugees will find economic security through participation in DLC’s English and Job-Readiness program. Adult English Language Learners must have higher language skills to thrive in the US economy. We will provide the English language and job-readiness skills instruction to they need to earn a living wage and/or enter vocational training programs, secondary or post-secondary education.
