We're thrilled to announce that the Durham Literacy Center has been recognized by GSK as one of 10 Triangle area GSK IMPACT Award 2021 winners for making our community healthier!
As the GSK IMPACT Awards mark their 25th anniversary, GSK recognizes the tremendous needs that nonprofits meet in improving the health of the communities where their employees live and work. “Nonprofits are critical for connecting people in RTP and Philadelphia with vital services including housing, food, employment, education and youth mentoring,” said Maya Martinez-Davis, President, US Pharmaceuticals at GSK. “We are pleased and honored to expand our support of many of these outstanding organizations so they can continue to make a difference for people and communities across these two regions far into the future.”
The winners were selected by a panel of local and national community leaders through a competitive process in collaboration with the Triangle Community Foundation. The nonprofits needed to demonstrate innovative, measured and sustainable approaches to addressing at least one of the following six community health factors: Community Safety, Education, Employment & Income, Family & Social Support, Housing & Shelter, and Nutrition & Physical Activity.
The Durham Literacy Center has been recognized for contributions to our community including adult education and health literacy. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our programs have shared accurate and accessible public health information with DLC students, helping them keep themselves and their families safe. We've also helped students get vaccinated, to interpret complicated health information, and to access vital resources.
We're honored to have been recognized by GSK and the Triangle Community Foundation for our work! You can learn more about this award and read the press release at https://us.gsk.com/en-us/media/press-releases/gsk-celebrates-25th-impact-awards/.
